Sydney to Melbourne following the old overland coach route of 572 miles. This comprises 343 of good, 140 miles of second-rate and 89 miles of bad roads. It was promoted by the Dunlop Tyre Co. 33 Competitors started from Sydney.
Four heavy cars, three light cars and two motorcycles scored full points. There was then an additional stage of March 6th for these vehicles from Melbourne to Ballarat and return non-stop, a distance of 140 miles. One lady finished - Mrs. B. Thomson (7 h.p. Wolseley).
