Arthur James Mayne (1870-1947), electrical engineer

1870 Born in Truro[1], son of James Oates Mayne, auctioneer and general agent, and his wife Louisa[2]

1881 The family was living in Harborne, Birmingham; his father was a gun maker[3]

Educated at Tettenhall College, Wolverhampton

1888 - 1891 Apprenticed to the Electrical Engineering department of G. E. Belliss and Co

Works Manager A. B. Gill and Co electrical engineers, Parliament St, Westminster

1891 formation of partnership New and Mayne, electrical and general engineers, Westminster

Works manager of the works at Woking until 1896

Co-patentee with A. G. New on various electrical patents, particularly switches.

1894 Engineer and subsequently managing director of the Woking Electric Supply Co until 1897

1895 Married Flora Maud Pain at Frimley[4]

1896 The firm of New and Mayne was turned into a limited company

1896 Anthony George New and Arthur James Mayne both were registered as London Electors at 12 Palace Chambers, Westminster[5]

1897 Manager of the electrical contracting department of New and Mayne in London

1897 Retired from the firm when it gave up electrical contracting to concentrate on manufacturing horseless carriages

1899 Electrical engineer to the War Department at Aldershot

1899 Associate of the Inst Elec Engineers

1913 Member of the Inst Elec Engineers, of Wellington Av, Aldershot

1947 Died in Surrey[6]
