1909 The Aerial League of the British Empire was founded
1910 At a meeting organised by the Lord Mayor in support of the Aerial League of the British Empire, it was agreed that the Aeronautical Society would be the scientific authority and the Royal Aero Club the authority in matters of sport in aviation. The League's immediate objective was to found an aeronautical institute, something that had already been done in France and Germany

The objects of the League are to secure the maintenance of adequate air forces and of reserves for Empire and Home Defence and to ensure the fullest development of British civil and commercial aviation.
