Alliance of Manufacturing and Management Organisations (AMMO)

1981 Formed in June 1981 when four professional institutions representing 70,000 men and women joined forces to improve industrial performance.

The creation of the organisation was a personal triumph for Professor Martyn Farley who was a production director of the small engines division of Rolls-Royce. In conceiving the idea of AMMO three years before, Farley compiled a list of major institutions wholly involved in manufacturing. Four responded:

Initially the alliance was run voluntarily by a committee of principals from the institutes with Farley as chairman.[1]
