1880 A Bedford Engineering Co. steam crane was used to lay the foundation stone of Truro Cathedral in Cornwall on 20th May 1880. There is a photo of the event on page 43 of the book, 'The Creation of a Cathedral' by Fisher Barham. The original photo may be in the Cornwall Record Office, Truro
1893 Company formed. 'Having, by due notice, terminated our engagements with Messrs. Grafton & Co., of the Vulcan Works, Bedford, we beg notify that we are starting in Business as MANUFACTURING ENGINEERS and CRANE MAKERS, and shall trade under the name of the Bedford Engineering Co. at our Works, Ampthill Road, Bedford.
