BEN ALBERT RHODES, born on the 11th September, 1874, met with his death on the 26th November, 1909, as the result of an accident at the Hoyland Colliery, South Yorkshire, of which he had been Manager for some 3 years.

Previously he was assistant manager at other collieries in Yorkshire under Messrs. J. and P. Higson, of Manchester, for whom he was also engaged on surveys in connection with the Lancashire and Yorkshire and Great Central Railways, as well as on a mineral survey in China.

Mr. Rhodes was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 4th December, 1900.
