Birmetals Ltd. of Woodgate Works, Quinton

1936 Formation of new company Birmid Industries[1] which would, amongst other things, establish a new rolling company Birmetals Ltd which would be formed to operate a new mill for high tensile aluminium alloys to meet the demand from aircraft, marine and other industries[2].

1967 Birmetals was part of the new public company Birmid Qualcast formed from the merger of Qualcast and Birmid Industries.

1980 750 workers demanded a pay rise when inflation rose at 20%. Dispatch workers refused to load lorries and work the cranes. Rumours abounded that the factory was to close down and a few days later workers involved in the dispute were sacked. The company closed.
