Cechuv Bridge, Prague
Čechův Bridge is a steel arch road bridge across the Vltava River in central Prague.
Three spans of 47.8 m, 53.1 m, and 59.2 m.
Built 1905 - 1908. Engineers: Jiří Soukup, Václav Trča, František Mencl (and/or M. Petrů?). Architect: Jan Koula.
The bridge is distinguised by art nouveua decorative features which include bronze sculptures by Antonín Popp on top of four tall columns. The tops of the cutwaters have bronze statues of torch bearers, with hydra figures on the downstream side of the piers. The bridge was named in honour of Svatopluk Čech, a Czech writer, journalist and poet, but between 1940 and 1945 it was named Mendel bridge.
