1861 Living at Fore Street, Chard: Charles Dening (age 53 born Wayford, Soms.), Ironmonger and manufacturer of Agricultural Implements employing 45 men and 5 boys. Widower. With his two children; Samuel H. Dening (age 24 born Chard), Ironmonger; and Susan M. Dening (age 17 born Chard). One servant.[2]
