Served apprenticeship with Alexander and Sons, Kennington; joined the Austin Motor Co., Ltd., in London, 1913. intended for sales department; served with Royal Fusiliers, 1914-19, two and a half years in France in 12th Batt., Royal Fusiliers; commissioned from C.S.M; in May, 1918; Assistant Adjutant to 11th Batt. Royal Fusiliers on demobilization; went to France in 1920 for Leylands on the clearance of the St. Omer Army Dump; later joined Princess Cars. Streatham, in charge of engine assembly; spent several years on the maintenance staff of Daimler Hire, Ltd.. dealing chiefly with the carburation of the fleet, and in 1930 joined Stromberg Motor Devices, Ltd., Chelsea, on the technical and development staff; joined Solex, Ltd., then in 1935 transferred to The Zenith Carburetter Co., Ltd., in charge of the Stromberg Technical Section; during Second World War was engaged on the development of tank engine carburetters, and in the technical administration of the Stromberg Injection System for aircraft; is the author of several books dealing with carburation; also has contributed many technical articles to The Automobile Engineer and other technical journals.
