Charles Todd (c1895-1852) of Sun Foundry, Dewsbury Road, Leeds

c1795 Born in Yorkshire

1822 March 5th. Marries Isabella Kay

Todd had been apprenticed to Matthew Murray at the Round Foundry.

1837 Founded Todd, Kitson and Laird

1839 Left to form Shepherd and Todd

1841 Living at Cumberland Street, Hunslet, Leeds (age 40 born Yorkshire), Engineer. With wife Isabella (age 35) and daughters Emma Isabella (age 15), Laura (age 12), Julia (age 11) and Mary Amelia (age 6). [1]

1844 Charles Todd left the firm of Shepherd and Todd and set up his own works.

1846 His second daughter Laura aged 17 died. [2]

1851 Charles not found in census. His wife Isabella, Married, is living at Dewsbury Road, Leeds (age 45 born Leeds), Engineer's wife, with daughters Emma Isabella (age 22 born Bolton), Julia (age 19 born Manchester), Mary Amelia (age 16 born Manchester) and Clara Fretraell (age 9 born Leeds) [3]

1852 September 30th. Death of Charles Todd, age 57, late Engineer of Leeds. [4]

1858 He built around twenty locomotives before the works closed. The premises were taken over by Carrett, Marshall and Co.

1858 October 27th. Marriage of his daughter Mary Amelia to T. S. Hick. The late Charles Todd, Civil Engineer of Leeds. [5]

1861 His widow Isabella is living at St Paul's Street, Leeds (age 50 born Leeds), House Proprietor and Widow with daughters Emma (age 30 born Bolton) and Clara (age 20 born Leeds). One servant. [6]
