DS Smith Plc is a leading British-based international packaging and office product wholesaling business. It is headquartered in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
The company manufactures packaging - corrugated packaging, plastic packaging and recycled paper.
1940 The business was founded in Wales by David Solomon Smith manufacturing cigarette cartons for the tobacco industry.
1986 The company was first listed on the London Stock Exchange
1988 Acquired Kemsley Paper Mill. With an annual production capacity of around 800,000 tonnes, it is the second biggest recovered fibre-based paper operation in Europe. Currently the plant produces K-Light testliner in white and brown, dual purpose liner/fluting, standard fluting and plasterboard liners.
1991 Acquired Kaysersberg Packaging, a leading packaging business
1993 Acquired Spicers, an office products wholesaler
2004 Acquired Linpac Containers, a corrugated packaging manufacturer
2005 Sold John Dickinson Stationery
2011 Sold Spicers, its office products wholesaling business, for £200 million.
