1929 New power station constructed by the London Power Co.

The turbine house basement was built in a former dry dock. Initially, the station had two turbine-generators, a bank of coal-fired boilers and a single large concrete chimney at the northern end. Four additional turbine-generators were added in the late 1930s together with three house sets, additional boilers and a second chimney.

Power was generated by 2 x 30 MW BTH, 3 x 35 MW Metropolitan-Vickers, 1 x 50 MW Metropolitan-Vickers turbine-alternators and 3 x 7 MW house sets.
