1865 The first section of the Devon and Cornwall Railway, to North Tawton, was opened in 1865
The London and South Western Railway Company arrived at Lydford, on the western fringes of Dartmoor, in October 1874, having absorbed the Devon and Cornwall Railway Company. The principal aim of the line was Plymouth and the dockyards at Devonport.
