Distributors of Rolls-Royce, Bentley cars

Company started by Richard Dutton-Forshaw using part of the proceeds of the sale of Burtonwood Engineering Co in 1959

1961 Incorporated as R. Dutton-Forshaw and Son Ltd.

1961 Acquired Nicholls and Son Ltd, Charles Follett Ltd, Moore of Brighton (1924) Ltd, Reid and Lee Ltd

1963 Acquired Blakes Motors Ltd, Charles Follett (Hampstead) Ltd

1964 Francis Garage Ltd, which had been under Dutton-Forshaw family control since 1944

1967 Acquired Jack Barclay, so becoming largest distributor of Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars [1]

1968 Converted to public company[2]

1969 Sold Relham Products, automatic turning specialists, to James Neill Holdings[3]. Acquired Murray and Charleton and Loxham Group and Central Motor Co 1919 (Kettering)[4]

1970 Acquired Voss Motors[5]

1972 Acquired Ansteymiles, distributors in Kent[6], Russells of Chatham[7], and Cogger and Hawkins, of Aylesbury. Sold Charles Follett, Jensen distributors[8]

1973 Acquired College Motors[9], Hall and Faire[10], Park Motors (Halifax)[11]. The Fiat representation was to be removed from Jack Barclay; Dutton Forshaw Group would expand its BLMC representation[12]. Acquired Wades (Worthing) and bid for British and Canadian Investments[13]. Sold Reid and Lee to International Property Developments[14]

c.1975 Acquired Saville Tractors[15]

1976 Acquired Quantock Motors of Swindon[16]

1978 Was concentrating its businesses in the more populated areas of the country[17]. Acquired Harrogate Motors and a Chrysler distributorshp in Cardiff[18]

c.1979 Taken over by Lonrho[19]
