Edward G. Herbert
Edward G. Herbert of Cornbrook Park Tool Works, Manchester, and later Atlas Works, Chapel Street, Levenshulme, Manchester were makers of machine tools, including the well-known Rapidor power hacksaws.
1892 Company founded by Edward Geisler Herbert.
1900 July. Article and illustration of an Automatic Cutting-Up Machine for metal bars. (Edward G. Herbert of Cornbrook Park Toolworks, Manchester)
1902 Public company.
1913 Automatic bar saw described and illustrated. By this time the company was based at Atlas Works, Levenshulme, Manchester.[1]. This was presumably the factory previously occupied by the Atlas Engineering Co.
1920 April. Issued catalogue on metal-sawing machines and many others.
1920 - September. Exhibited at the Machine Tool and Engineering Exhibition at Olympia with a radial sawing machine.
1926 - October. They appointed Inniss and Riddle, Town Hall Chambers, 86, New-street, Birmingham, to represent them in the Midlands.[2]
1926 - November. They appointed W. Crockatt and Sons to represent them in Scotland.[3]
1937 Machine tool and testing machine manufacturers. "Field-Foster" Testing and Balancing Machines. "Olsen" and "Olsen-Lundgren" Testing and Balancing Machines. "Rapidor" Sawing Machines and Hacksaw Blades.[4]
1940 Advert. Sawing and testing equipment.
1945 Advert. Machine tool service. Sawing, testing and balancing equipment.
1961 Engineers and machine tool makers specialising in sawing machines, testing machines and balancing machinery.[5]
1973 RTZ Pillar and Derek Hartle Ltd held more than 67 percent of the shares in the group which was successfully building a profitable machine tool group[6]
