1886 'The firm have obtained a wide reputation for the excellence and skilful workmanship shown in all the tools they turn out of their works, some of which will be found on view at the Exhibition. One specialty which the Messrs. Preston have patented and which is most ingeniously contrived, is the Adjustable Iron Block Plane. It has many advantages over other tools of its class, the most prominent of these being that the action is direct, and that to effect a saving in fixing and setting the iron for work, no hammer Is required.'
