Exeter Humane Society. For recovering of persons apparently dead by Drowning or any other species of suffocation.[1]

1800 A special meeting of the subscribers to the Exeter Humane Society was held at the Globe Tavern, in that city on Monday, where sundry persons were rewarded for rescuing nine persons from drowning.[2]
