GEC-Avery was formed after 1979 when GEC acquired W. and T. Avery. It took nearly a year from November 1979 for GEC to stabilise turnover, but by the end of the second year productivity had increased by 25%. Almost 2,000 workers were lost due to voluntary redundancies.
