George Gilbert Scott (1839–1897), architect and scholar

1839 born on 8 October at 20 Spring Gardens, London, the eldest of the five sons of Sir George Gilbert Scott, architect, and his wife Caroline Oldrid (1811–1872).

His sons Giles Gilbert Scott (1880–1960) and Adrian Gilbert Scott (1882-1963) were also architects.

The last years of his life after the death of his father were marred by mental instability. He died in Midland Grand Hotel, a building designed by his father, of liver cirrhosis.
