H. M. Stanley (Scales and Weights)
1934 Stanley set up as sole trader at 34 Moness St., working evenings and weekends, whilst still at Stevens.
1938 He resigned from Stevens.
c1942 First proper premises in Balham
1942 Albert William Harrington began making balances in his garden shed. At some unknown date this grew into commercial making, selling through H. M. Stanley. He was still employed at Oertling.
1945 Re-formed as H. M. Stanley (Scales and Weights) Ltd.
1946 moved to 172 Clerkenwell Road, EC1. (shop)
1946 Henry Morton Stanley and Albert W. Harrington founded Stanton Instruments Ltd.
1950 Moved to 14 Grasmere Avenue, SW19. (offices) and 593 Kingston Road, Raynes Park, SW20. (works)
1954 Moved to Burgess Hill, Sussex (home over shop)
1957 Opened purpose-built factory at Burgess Hill.
1965 Stanley sold the factory and worked from home thereafter.
1985 He dissolved the limited company: sole trader again.
1999 Stanley died 24th January, aged 82.
