1853 February 13th. Died. 'On Sunday last, aged 48 years, Mr. Henry Atkin, Eyre st. At various periods he was appointed to many public offices of responsibility; and by his colleagues he was always regarded as a man of superior intelligence and sound judgment. Amongst his personal friends, he numbered some of the most notable individuals of his day; not only in Sheffield, but in distant places.'[1]
