1868 September. For sale. 'VELWELL VILLAS. IN THE PARISH OF ST. DAVID, EXETER. TWO NEWLY-ERECTED SEMI-DETACHED FAMILY RESIDENCES, WITH GOOD GARDENS. MR. W. WILLS will OFFER for SALE by AUCTION, at the Queen's Hotel, on Monday, the 7th day of September next, at Three O'Clock in the afternoon, unless previously disposed of by private contract, of which due notice will be given, the above newly-erected FAMILY RESIDENCES. The property is situate in one of the most healthy parts of Exeter, and is within live minutes walk of the centre of the city, and on inspection will be found replete with every convenience. 1869 March. For sale. No 1 Verwell Villas. '...the above very desirable RESIDENCE, containing five large bedrooms, drawing-room, dining and morning-rooms, excellent kitchens, and offices, &c, replete with every convenience. The property is held for the residue a term of 2,000 years, which commenced 25th March. 1864, subject to an annual ground rent of £4, and is situate in one of the most healthy parts of Exeter, overlooking Bury Meadow, and within five minutes' walk of the centre of the city.'
1869 June. To Let. 3 Velwell Villas comprising three reception rooms, five bedrooms and well arranged domestic offices; good garden to the rear, pump with excellent spring water. Mr Ware, Paris Street.'
1871 November. 6 Velwell Villas. Death of Susan the wife of Philip Francis, age 64.
1872 March. 5 Velwell Villas. Birth of daughter to Edward Hake.
1872 July. Four properties for sale. 8 Velwell Villas occupied by Henry Norrington; 9 Velwell Villas occupied by Walter Trehane; and Nos 10 and 11 Velwell Villas.
1876 February. Request from the inhabitants of Velwell Villas that the footpath in front should be asphalted.
1876 April. Sale of Nos 1, 3 and 5 Velwell Villas, the seven houses of Linden Vale and of Hazlewood, Velwell Meadow.
Ca.1878-80 The numbering of the Velwell Villas was changed to be offset by the additional seven houses just built as Linden Vale
1881 November. For sale. 'Excellent DWELLING-HOUSE, now known as 13, HOWELL-ROAD, Saint David's, Exeter formerly known as one of the Velwell Villas; comprising, on the ground floor, dining and drawing-rooms, back and front kitchens, china pantry wine cellar, &c.; on the first floor, 3 large bedrooms and w.c.; and on the second floor 3 capital bedrooms and dressing-room; front a small lawn with flower beds, and in the rear productive walled garden. There is a pump of hard water, and the Company's water is laid on. The house is in excellent order, semi-detached, has a southerly aspect, overlooks Bury Meadow, commands an extensive view, and is within a few minutes' walk of the Cathedral and of the Saint David's and Queen street Railway Stations.' This sale follows the death of Mrs. Gilbert Ware on 04th November 1881, age 78.
