Location: Whalley Street was at the northern end of Canal Street, close to the junction with New Islington and Bradford Street. Adshead's 1851 Maps of Manchester, Map No. 15, shows 'S Longdin’s Islington Foundry' occupying about half the area of a block of premises bounded by Whalley Street, Marsh Street, Sutton Street, Bradford Road and Canal Street. The main access was from Sutton Street.
