J. McManus (1808-1875), railway contractor in the USA
1875 Obituary 
The death is announced of Mr. J. McManus, of the Reading Iron Works (Seyfert, McManus, and Co.), Reading, Pennsylvania.
Mr. McManus was born in Fermanagh in 1808, and came to the United States when he was 18 years of age. He began as a farm labourer in Greene County, in the State of New York, but he afterwards developed into one of the most prominent railroad contractors in the United States.
Mr. McManus assisted in the construction of the Hudson River Railroad, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, &c. He was also one of the original contractors for the Croton Aqueduct, which supplies New York with water.
