1847 founded in Barrow-in-Furness by James Fisher who created a fleet of ships to transport iron-rich haematite from the Cumbrian hills to support the Industrial Revolution.

1883 Took delivery of their first steam ships

1926 Private limited company

1952 Incorporated as a public company

1965 Launch of Stream Fisher, for transport of irradiated nuclear waste

1993 Acquired CS Nexus, for laying optical fibre cables

1996 Established division for subsea excavation. Acquired P&O Tankers.

2005 Acquired Fendercare Marine

2007 Acquired Buchan Technical Services and FT Everard
