1871 John Atkinson, visiting Thomas Scott and family, in Hexham, was an engineer master employing 75 men[3]

1878 A John Atkinson (born c.1840) died in Newcastle upon Tyne[4]; he was a marine engine builder; of Park Road, Newcastle; Anne Mary Atkinson was his widow[5]
