1941 Obituary 
JOHN GILBERT OLSEN was an aeronautical engineer and was connected with the firm of Supermarine Aviation (Vickers), Ltd., in Southampton from his apprenticeship, which he served from 1927 to 1931, until his death, which occurred at the early age of 29, on 24th September 1940, as a result of war operations. He was educated at Woolston Boys' School, and at University College, Southampton.
In 1932, he was made jig and tool designer and held that position until 1936, when he was appointed superintendent of the erection and assembly shops, with responsibility to the general manager for the construction of aircraft and for the preparation of machines for flight. Mr. Olsen was elected a Student of the Institution in 1931 and was transferred to Graduateship in 1935, and to Associate Membership in 1939.
