John Lang and Sons of Johnstone, nr Glasgow were machine tool manufacturers.
1873 Company founded.
1894 Surfacing and boring Lathe. [1]
1895 Visit to the works by a party from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
1911: 12 inch Centre Lathe. [2]
1916 Private company.
1920 September. Exhibited at the Machine Tool and Engineering Exhibition at Olympia with a number of lathes with their well-known system of variable speed driving by means of expanding pulleys. [3]
Member of Associated British Machine Tool Makers
1959 Formation of Lang Gisholt Machine Co. Ltd to manufacture the complete range of lathes and power-operated chucks for John Lang and Sons Ltd and the complete range of machine tools for Gisholt (Great Britain) Ltd.
1961 Lathe manufacturers, machine tool makers and engineers. 800 employees. [4]
1964 Acquired by Wickman to provide that company with extra production capacity; Lang's lathes would usefully extend the company's product range[5]
