c.1866 Shanghai Municipal Council, responsible for building and surveying work

c.1868 Chief engineer afloat in various Far Eastern waters

c.1870 Set up in business for himself as consulting and mechanical engineer, at Queen Victoria St, London

1878 Joined Inst Mechanical Engineers

1881 John Rennie 39, consulting engineer M.I.M.E., lived in Lewisham with Emily R. Rennie 36,

1911 Retired Consulting & Inspecting Mechanical Engineer, living in Rhuddlan, with Emily Rennie[2]

1925 Died in St Asaph[3]
