of Desborough, near Kettering.

1885 Company established by Joseph Cheaney

1896 Joseph, with his son Arthur, moved to the site which the factory occupies today.

The factory made shoes exclusively for some of the finest retailers around the world, branded to their individual company requirements.

1903 Harold Cheaney joined his father and brother in the business, which led to the company name changing to J. Cheaney & Sons.

1920 Joseph Cheaney and Sons Ltd was incorporated to acquire the business carried on by Arthur Cheaney and in partnership as Joseph Cheaney and Sons.

c.1964 Joseph Humfrey Cheaney, the founder’s grandson (who worked for the company for 51 years), realised that the company’s future lay in building up the Cheaney brand for its home and export markets.

1967 Sold the business to Church's English Shoes.[1]

1967 The Cheaney of England brand then became available to retailers all over the world, backed by a comprehensive stock service from the Desborough factory.

1966 Won the Queen's Award for Industry

2007 The business and assets were transferred to Church and Co Ltd

2009 Jonathan and William Church (whose family had been making fine shoes for five generations) bought the Desborough factory and a new company was formed Cheaney Shoes Ltd.

2016 Gained the Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
