Lewin and Wellman
of the Poole Ironworks and Foundry
1884 Bankrupt. '...proceedings in oonneotion with the bankruptcy of Messrs. Lewin and Wellman, ironmongers, of Poole. Mr. Wellman waa the only debtor who appeared, and it was stated Mr. Lewin was in Belgium with his wife, who was dangerously ill. Mr. Wellman was shortly examined, and said he only entered into partnership with Mr. Lewin a month or two before Christmas. The business was then small, but there was abont £2800 worth of goods on the premises. He set down the failure as occurring through the pressure of creditors, and through lack of capital. He had expectations other partners would have been introduced, but that was not the case. The liabilities and assets were not stated, and, as it was useless to go on with the matter in the absence of Mr. Lewin, the case was adjourned for a month.'[1]
