. . . joined the staff of John Fowler, Past President Inst. C.E., by whom he was employed in the construction of the docks at New Holland, and the railways connected therewith, till 1850. In that year he visited North America, and travelled extensively in the United States and Canada. In 1851 he returned to his native country (Sweden), but left it in the following year for the United States, where he settled permanently. . . .
