1958 AEI acquired Associated Insulation Products from Elliott Automation, giving AEI control of one of its principal suppliers of materials. AIP held 54 percent of Micanite and Insulators, supplier of heavy insulation equipment; English Electric Co held 7 percent of the equity and AEI held 39 percent[1]

1969 Became part of GEC Power Engineering which then rationalised the business, including closing the Empire Works, as well as the works of Richard Whiffen at Ashton under Lyne[2]
