1888 Company established by Andre Jules Michelin and his brother Edouard Michelin in the French city of Clermont-Ferrand
1894 Introduced the Michelin Man symbol.
1898 Adopted the name Bibendum (Latin for "time to drink") for the Michelin Man to show that the tyres could 'drink' spikes, nails, glass, etc.
1896 MM. Michelin et Cie., the chief pneumatic tyre makers of France, fitted up a carriage with pneumatic tyres of their own manufacture and promoted the vehicle in England[1]
Set up British subsidiary - see Michelin Tyre Co
1934 Took control of Citroen at the French government's request.
