1920 Curtis's and Harvey, recognising that the production of gas mantles had become more than a sideline, established a new subsidiary Record Gas Mantle Co Ltd which acquired the Ironclad mantle activity. Soon after acquired Ramie Co Ltd, which included the British Thorium Syndicate, and the Volker Lighting Corporation. As a result the company owned 4 of the 7 principal mantle factories in Britain, one of the 2 Ramie works, one of the 2 principal Thorium works and had interests in the other.

1920 Name changed to Lighting Trades Ltd, a public company in which Nobel Industries had a substantial interest and had provided the capital for the amalgamation.
