ROY VEITCH VINING was born in Liverpool on 25th April 1887.
He received his general education at D'Eresby House School and Rolandseck School, Ealing.
He then took the three years' course of instruction in Mechanical Engineering at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Engineering, where he won the Diploma and Silver Medal for workshop practice.
This was followed by five and a half years' apprenticeship with the Vining Motor Co., Shepherd's Bush, London.
On completing his apprenticeship, he entered the drawing-office of Messrs. D. Napier and Son, Ltd., Acton Vale, where he was appointed chief assistant to the senior draughtsman in the Engine Design Department.
A promising career was cut short by his death, which took place at Ealing on 26th November 1915, at the age of twenty-eight.
He was elected a Graduate of this Institution in 1907, and served on the Committee of the Graduates' Association during the Sessions 1913 to 1915; in 1911 he read a Paper before the Graduates, entitled "Motor Car Construction and Design."
He was elected an Associate Member in May 1915.
