S. C. Vincent (c1895-1961)
1962 Obituary 
Mr S. C. Vincent was 66 years of age when he died on 15th October. He was elected an Associate Member in 1929 and became a full Member in 1946. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
From 1909-1914 he served an apprenticeship with John Jardine of Nottingham. During these years he also attended Nottingham University College where he obtained his B.Sc.(Eng.) degree.
In the 1914-18 war he served with R.E. Signals, returning to John Jardine as Assistant to the Engineer, then Assistant to the Chief Engineer.
In the years 1923-27 he worked for Nottingham Colwich Estates Ltd, as Shift Engineer, then Superintendent, and finally Engineer. He was responsible for raising the plant's capacity to 2250 kW, and directly in charge of the layout of a 1000 kW extension.
He was appointed Chief Engineer to Wm. Hollins and Co. Ltd, in 1927, where he worked to the Directors on all matters in connexion with power, light, heat, and water supplies for the Company's mills in Pleasley, Nottingham, Huddersfield, Matlock, and Glasgow.
Mr Vincent was appointed Mechanical Engineer to the Surrey County Council in 1936. He supervised the services and equipment of all County buildings, including hospitals, police courts and schools.
Since 1947 Mr Vincent had advised the Membership Committee on hospital engineering qualifications. He made many friends as a result of his kindness and understanding and the Institution will miss his guidance.
