1800 Listed in Bancks's Manchester and Salford Directory as a machine maker, New Boar's Head, Hyde's Cross.
1809 Advert: 'SALE BY AUCTION, At the house of Edward Lees, .... And also all that large Edifice or Building lately used as a Cotton Factory, situate in Ashton-under-lyne aforesaid, four stories high, and thirty-six yards long, by nine yards and one foot wide in the inside, .... And also all that Steam Engine of fourteen horses’ power, with the engine house, reservoir, and appurtenances thereto belonging, situate in Ashton-under-lyne aforesaid. And also all that Edifice or Building, twelve yards long by four yards wide, used as a Blacksmith’s Shop, situate in Ashton-under-lyne aforesaid, and now in the occupation of Sampson Taylor......'[1]
