1933 'It was officially announced on Friday last that a recent offer by the South-Eastern Gas Corporation, Ltd., to holders of the ordinary stock of the Folkestone Gas and Coke Co. has been accepted by more than 90 per cent, of the stockholders. The South-Eastern Gas Corporation was recently formed with an initial capital of £323,000 under the joint auspices of Messrs. Dawnay, Day and Co and Messrs. Edward de Stein and Co, to acquire controlling interests a number of important Kent gas undertakings, including the Folkestone Gas and Coke Co. (incorporating the Hythe and Sandgate Gas Co.); the East Kent Gas Co Ltd. (incorporating Wye, Chilham and Bridge Gas Companies); the Deal and Walmer Gas Co.; and the Whitstable Gas and Coke Co., Ltd. The first Directors include Major Julian Day. of Dawnay, Day and Co., Mr. K. W. Hickman, of Edward de Stein and Co., and Mr. G. M. Gill, the well-known gas engineer.'[1]

1948 Classified by the Ministry of Fuel and Power in respect of the Gas Bill as one of 10 gas holding companies[2]
