Thomas Bracegirdle
James Thomas Bracegirdle (1819-1865) was born in 1819 in Leeds.
1830 Established a textile machine-making business, 'Bracegirdle & Thomas', in partnership with Edward Thomas, in Alt-Harzdorf, near Reichenberg.
1835 Edward Thomas retired, after having established his own textile machine business in Karolienthal, near Prague, in 1832.
Until 1837 or 1839 Bracegirdle was in Alt-harzdorf. Then, until 1845, he had a workshop in Gablonz (the German name for Jablonec), the business being called 'Th. Bracegirdle Landesffugte Maschinenfabrik zu Gablonz'.
1845 Relocated to Brno, and his son James joined the business (Th. Bracegirdle & Sohn, Brno). The firm's first steam engine was built there in 1845.
1848 Started gun manufacture.
1865 Bracegirdle died in Brno on 22 January.
1872 The firm merged with K. k. Priv. Maschinenfabrik HA Luz, Brno to form Erste Brünner Maschinenfabrik-Gesellschaft, Brno.
1873 The works of the former Bracegirdle company in the suburb of Kröna was shut down.
