1911 May 27th. Died in St Petersburg in a Russian built Sommer plane when he failed to pull out of a dive. He was an inexperienced pilot.
1911 'While making flight to-day, the first day of the aviation week, the airman Vladimir Smith, who was using a Sommer machine, fell from a height over feet, and died while being conveyed to hospital. Smith was British subject. He was 25 years of age, and simply owed his death inexperience.
