William Avery (1789-1843)

1811 A mercer and draper when he married Elizabeth Balden.

1812 Birth of his first son, William Henry Avery (1812–1874), joining a long-established dynasty of Birmingham scale makers.

1813 Birth of second son, Thomas Avery (1813-1894)[1]

1814 Inherited the scale-beam making business from his cousin, Joseph Balden. He immediately began to stimulate the business with his brother Thomas; they traded under the name of William and Thomas Avery.

1843 By the time of William's death in 1843, his two sons, Thomas and William Henry were already in the business.
