1835, the York Flint Glass Company was established by Joseph Spence, and the firm is known to have expanded from this period onwards. The company specialised in the production of accurate measures for medical and pharmaceutical companies.
1845 'York, 31st January 1845. NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership lately existing between us the undersigned, Thomas Price, Thomas Backhouse, James Meek, and Joseph Spence, as Glass Manufacturers, in or near the city of York, under the name or style of the York Flint Glass Company, has this day been dissolved by mutual consent.' 
1930 National Glass Works (York) Limited was incorporated as a private company in 1930 as the successor to the York Flint Glass Company
