1903 S. B. Boulton and his son Harold Edwin Boulton (and presumably his other son, Oscar) set up the Dominion Tar and Chemical Co in Nova Scotia, setting up tar-distillery companies and creosoting plants.

1962 Acquired the Hendon Paper Works, in Sunderland.
