1869 November 11th. Act authorising passed and built in three sections:

  • Essendon to Seymour - Over the Great Divide. Joseph Brady was senior engineer - opened (less bridge) April 1872
  • Seymour to Benella - Contractor was Murray and Styles - opened August 1873
