1867 14th annual report - this means it was instituted in 1852, presumably as Association of Foremen of the Engineering Trade.

1901 The Institution was one of a number of bodies invited to contribute suggestions concerning an industrial dispute at Hatcham Ironworks by Mr W. H. Northcott[1]
