1830 November 19th. Birth of a son. 'At St. Blazey, on the 19th instant, the wife of Captain Joel Hitchens, of a son.'

1842 October 13th. Death of daughter Mary. 'At Mount Charles, St. Austell, on the 13th, Mary, daughter of Captain Joel Hitchens, age 2 years.'
1849 Announcement of the appointment of Captain Joel Hitchins to supersede the present commissioner at the Imperial Brazilian Mining Association.
1849 In Brazil. 'The gold returns from Gongo and Bananal......Captain Joel Hitchens has reported himself at the mines, but has not had time to inspect and make a report of the present prospects of them...'

This Joel is the son of Captain Joel Hitchens
