Robert Riddle Surtees (1855-1919), locomotive draughtsman.

1855 Born in Newcastle[1], son of John Surtees, an iron moulder[2]

1880 Appointed as a draughtsman at Longhedge Works[3]

1891 Locomotive engine draughtsman living with his family in Lambeth[4]

c.1896 Chief Draughtsman, London, Chatham, and Dover Railway, Locomotive Department, Wandsworth-road, London

1901 Robert R Surtees 45, mechanical engineer, lived in Ashford, with Robert P Surtees 18, steam engine fitter, Florence M Surtees 16, John W Surtees 15, steam engine fitter, Joseph E Surtees 14, Alice Surtees 12, James Surtees 11, George Surtees 9, Arthur Surtees 6[5]

Led design work for the successor South Eastern and Chatham Railway under Wainwright.

1911 Robert Reddle Surtees 55, Chief Mechanical Draughtsman, lived in Ashford with Emma Surtees 58, George Surtees 19, Arthur Surtees 16[6]

1919 Died in Guy's Hospital[7]
