1987 Smiths Industries included a division by name of Aerospace and Defence Systems; one area of business was flight control systems[1]

2000 Formation of Smiths Group by merger with TI Group

2001 Dowty Aerospace Gloucester was renamed Smiths Aerospace Gloucester, a subsidiary of Smiths Aerospace Ltd

2007 Smiths Aerospace was sold to GE Aviation, a division of General Electric, for US$4.8 billion.
